Brown Fused Alumina for Rust Removal: Buyer Checklist

Plan a rust removal abrasive trial with clear surface, equipment and inspection requirements.

TECHNICAL GUIDE / 2026-10-02

Short answer. Brown fused alumina F grit is a CHAOYAN product route for abrasive blasting. To specify rust removal, describe the steel surface, coating or corrosion state, required finish, equipment and inspection method.

Define the surface requirement

'Rust removal' can describe very different starting surfaces. A buyer should state whether the workpiece has light oxidation, heavy corrosion, old coating or mixed contamination. Define the intended end state using the project's inspection or coating specification rather than a vague appearance claim.

If the substrate has edges, thin sections or delicate details, include them in the trial. A grain that cleans a flat test panel may need a different operating condition on the actual part. The supplier needs these facts before discussing grade or particle shape.

Make the grade comparison meaningful

Use a named F grit model and request its PDS. The product page gives available chemistry and physical data where the published specification provides them; size distribution limits should be fixed in the agreed sheet. Test candidate grades under the same machine settings before interpreting the outcome.

Record abrasive consumption, cleaning time and the achieved surface condition if they affect the buying decision. When recycling grain, record the reuse cycle and removal of fines, because the working mix can change during the test.

Selection guidance

Share the substrate, rust and coating condition, target inspection standard, existing abrasive, equipment settings, grade candidate and purchase quantity. Ask for a labeled sample and the exact PDS before a production quote.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming one F grade will fit all rust conditions.
  • Leaving the target surface or inspection method undefined.

Frequently asked questions

Is brown fused alumina F grit used for rust removal blasting?

The CHAOYAN catalog includes an application product for rust removal and blasting within its F grit route.

Can a PDS guarantee the cleaned surface?

No. The PDS describes material data; the finished surface depends on the process and must be verified in a trial.

Specific chemical, size and performance values are subject to the agreed product specification, technical agreement and batch test result.
