Container Loading Assumptions for Brown Fused Alumina Orders

Clarify product weight, bag count, container type and handling constraints before comparing brown fused alumina freight quotes.

TECHNICAL GUIDE / 2026-10-02

Short answer. A brown fused alumina export quote should state product net mass, packaging mass, expected gross weight, bag count, container type and the verified loading plan. Freight quoted per container is not a per-tonne amount. Check carrier, route and local weight restrictions before fixing a shipment quantity or interpreting a landed-price estimate.

Separate product and shipment quantities

Buyers often ask for a price per metric tonne while freight providers quote a container movement. These units must be connected through a real loading plan, not a casual assumption that every container carries the same weight. Start with the requested net product quantity and unit, then list bag size, bag count, pallets or other packing and estimated gross weight. The packaging record should match the product grade and lot labels so the shipment can be checked at both loading and receiving.

The allowable loading weight depends on the container, carrier, road and port rules for the particular route. Do not invent a universal maximum from a previous shipment. Confirm the current limits with the logistics provider and obtain a container type suitable for the chosen packing and handling equipment. A plan that fits by volume may still exceed a weight or axle restriction; a plan within weight may be inefficient because bags or pallets cannot be arranged safely.

Write the freight basis explicitly

An ocean freight amount should be labeled per container, per metric tonne or total for the stated shipment. If a buyer receives a per-container number, multiply by the number of containers actually required; do not add it directly to a per-tonne FOB unit price. If quantity is expressed in kilograms, convert to metric tonnes before applying an FOB rate in USD/MT. The internal quote calculation must keep those bases visible so a reviewer can reproduce the result.

For commercial terms, distinguish FOB Tianjin from CFR at the destination port and CIF with marine insurance. FOB plus ocean freight gives a CFR reference, not CIF. Insurance basis, scope and confirmed amount need separate treatment. A reference estimate should not be presented as a binding delivered price when container count, freight rate or insurance are still unconfirmed. Keep effective date and currency with every freight quotation because logistics inputs can change independently of the abrasive product price.

Check packing and loading details

Specify whether product is in small bags, larger units, pallets or another approved arrangement. Confirm that forklifts, door clearance and unloading equipment can handle the plan. Photograph container condition and the load before sealing, then record container and seal numbers. A package count alone is insufficient if different bags contain different grades or lots. The packing list should map those differences clearly, especially when a shipment combines F grit, P grit or refractory fractions.

Protect bags from water and damage under the agreed packing instruction. A liner or moisture-control measure may be appropriate for a route, but it is not a substitute for inspecting the container. Record whether the buyer requires individual pallet labels or a bag-level lot mark. A plan that maximizes tonnage but makes labels unreadable or bags impossible to unload safely may increase receiving cost and quality risk.

Compare quotes on the same scenario

When comparing suppliers, normalize product grade, net quantity, packing, container count, origin and destination ports, trade term, freight basis and validity date. A lower USD/MT FOB number may be offset by a different packing plan or more containers. Likewise, a quoted CFR total is not directly comparable with an FOB price until freight is added to the latter on the same quantity basis. Identify taxes, destination charges and other terms outside the chosen comparison separately instead of hiding them in a freight figure.

If shipment size changes during negotiation, recalculate container count and unit landed reference. A single additional partial container can materially change the average freight per tonne. Document the assumption rather than silently reusing the prior per-tonne freight. The seller and buyer should agree who books transport and insurance under the chosen term, then confirm the final commercial quotation with current logistics evidence.

Selection guidance

Send CHAOYAN the exact brown fused alumina product, net quantity, preferred packing, destination port and unloading constraints. Ask for a packing proposal and verify the container plan with a freight provider. The export packing guide covers labels and documents; the technical RFQ guide helps keep material grade separate from logistics terms. Use internal estimates only as working references. Final price and trade term should be confirmed against actual quantity, packing, freight and insurance, not inferred from a standard container stereotype.

Common mistakes

  • Treating a per-container freight rate as a per-tonne rate.
  • Confusing product net mass with loaded gross weight.
  • Reusing an old loading limit without checking current route restrictions.
  • Comparing FOB and CIF prices without separating freight and insurance.

Frequently asked questions

Can a buyer calculate CIF by adding freight to FOB?

No. That yields a CFR reference. CIF also includes the agreed marine insurance component and its specified basis.

Does one container always carry the same brown fused alumina tonnage?

No. Packing, container type, route restrictions and safe handling determine the actual plan. Confirm each shipment rather than applying a universal figure.

Specific chemical, size and performance values are subject to the agreed product specification, technical agreement and batch test result.
