TECHNICAL GUIDE / 2026-10-02
Short answer. Identify the end use first, then choose the product family, grade or fraction and processing requirements. Confirm the choice with an agreed specification and sample trial before repeat purchasing.
Choose the product form
CHAOYAN's approved catalog organizes brown fused alumina as F grit for bonded abrasives and blasting, P grit for coated abrasives, refractory grain for castables and bricks, fine powder for formulations, plus special processing and custom supply. These are distinct purchasing forms; asking for 'brown fused alumina' alone leaves the supplier without enough information.
State the finished product, process equipment, current material and target result. That context narrows the family. For a belt, start with P grit; for a grinding wheel or blasting process, start with F grit; for a castable, list grain fractions and powder separately.
| End use | Starting family | Next question |
|---|---|---|
| Wheel / blasting | F grit | Which model and grading? |
| Belt / paper | P grit | Which P standard? |
| Castable / brick | Refractory grain / powder | Which fractions? |
| Shape controlled process | Special processing | Which sample criteria? |
Turn the selection into a specification
The selected family leads to an exact grade or size fraction, chemistry limits, particle distribution, physical properties and packing. Where a published page lacks numbers, request the technical sheet. If replacing an incumbent material, send a working sample and define how the comparison will be tested.
A useful progression is requirement, candidate product, sample, process trial, accepted technical sheet, then repeat order. Record any changes in process settings during the trial so the result can be understood later.
Selection guidance
Use the product catalog filters and individual PDS downloads to prepare an RFQ. Send the application, desired grade, annual volume, destination and acceptance sheet in the inquiry form.
Common mistakes
- Choosing by a single chemical number without checking the product form and grading.
- Treating an application suggestion as a guaranteed result without a trial.
Frequently asked questions
Can CHAOYAN discuss custom particle shape?
The approved catalog lists processing and sample matching options; exact feasibility and limits require agreement for the order.
What is the first useful detail for an inquiry?
The intended end product or process, followed by the current grade or sample and target specification.
