TECHNICAL GUIDE / 2026-10-02
Short answer. Start with the castable formulation's required grain fractions and fine powder, then agree chemistry, grading and batch acceptance. CHAOYAN lists refractory grain and fine powder as separate product forms.
Grain fractions and matrix material
The approved CHAOYAN catalog lists refractory brown fused alumina grain fractions of 0–1, 1–3, 3–5, 5–8, 8–15 and 8–20 mm. It also lists refractory 200F and 320F fine powder and standard mesh-to-zero powders. These products should be selected by their role in the customer's formulation, not collapsed into one generic 'brown fused alumina' line.
A castable may use more than one fraction. The buyer must supply the target grading, chemical limits and any retained fraction requirements. The public record does not establish universal limits for each castable formulation, so the final composition belongs in the agreed technical sheet.
| Form | Catalog examples | Specify |
|---|---|---|
| Grain | 0–1, 1–3, 3–5 mm | Fraction bounds and grading |
| Fine powder | 200F / 320F | Powder specification |
| Combined order | Several fractions | Ratio, packing and labels |
From formulation to order
Provide the existing recipe or at least each material fraction and target test method. Evaluate candidate grain and powder in the actual mixing and casting process; record placement, curing and service criteria under the buyer's procedure.
Keep the grain fractions separately identified through sample, quotation, packing and batch reports. If a nonstandard fraction is needed, confirm whether it can be supplied and agree the sieve limits before the order is accepted.
Selection guidance
Open the refractory castable application page and the exact grain or powder product records. Send the fraction list, chemistry limits, annual quantity and sample request through the inquiry form.
Common mistakes
- Ordering 'refractory BFA' without listing fractions.
- Treating standard fine powder and refractory 200F/320F as the same specification.
Frequently asked questions
Can several grain fractions be requested together?
Yes. State each fraction and the required grading so the combined supply can be evaluated against the formulation.
Does the public PDS replace a castable recipe?
No. It describes a raw material; the customer's formulation and trial determine castable suitability.
